New facsimile for harpsichordists : The 4th Book of the Ladys Entertainment by William Babell

The 4th Book of the Ladys Entertainment or Banquet of Musick Being a Choice Collection of the most Celebrated Aires & Duets in the Opera’s of Hydaspes & Almahide. Curiously Set and fitted to the Harpsicord or Spinnet: with their Symphonys introduc’d in a compleat manr. by M. W. Babel.

William Babell (c1690-1723) acquired an international reputation as a harpsichordist largely through his virtuoso arrangements of fashionable operatic arias and overtures, especially those of Handel. His keyboard style was undoubtedly influenced by his close acquaintance with Handel’s playing.

William Babell (c1690-1723) composa de nombreuses transcriptions pour le clavecin d’arias des opéras les plus populaires de l’époque. Elles furent publiées en France, aux Pays-Bas, en Allemagne comme en Angleterre et furent à la base de sa réputation. Son style fut très fortement influencé par Haendel.
